The acceptance of ACE approval by a particular jurisdiction can mean a variety of things. A board may choose to:
- Accept all courses offered by an ACE approved provider.
- Accept ACE approved providers, yet continue to review individual courses.
- Accept most courses, but have exemptions for specific topics or formats, such as practice marketing courses, internet courses, or courses without a significant research base.
Some boards do not accept ACE approval. These boards may be required by legislation or regulation to approve each individual course or provider.
Some boards do not pre-approve courses or providers. In this case, courses are audited by the board when the individual social worker submits their CE documentation for licensure renewal.
Licensed social workers should contact their individual state jurisdiction to review current continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. It is up to the licensee to be sure the content of the courses they take will meet the requirements of their board.
Keep in mind that THE REGULATORY BOARD has the final say in determining the acceptability of a course offering.
